Storage
 
  • Refrigerate as soon as possible. Loose mushrooms are best stored in a paper bag in your refrigerator(a paper bag reduces moisture buildup).
  • Once original film is removed from packaged mushrooms, store them in a paper bag in your refrigerator.
  • Do not store with pungent foods because mushrooms may absorb odors.
  • Do not wash before storing.
 
Cleaning
 
  • Carefully wipe mushrooms with either a damp cloth or soft brush to remove any visible particles of dirt
  • Rinse quickly and pat dry
  • Never soak Mushrooms
 
Freezing
 
  • Do not freeze fresh mushrooms
  • If it is necessary to freeze, saute mushrooms first in butter or oil, cool and freeze in an air tight conatiner for up to one month.
 
Preparing
Below are some simple methods for preparing mushroom.Since mushrooms are versatile, they are a great solution to giving a little excitement to an ordinary dish or adding a layer of flavoring to any meal.
  • Trim stems only if they are dry or tough like with Shiitakes and Portabellas.All other mushroom stems may be eaten.
  • Using a sharp knife, cut and slice mushrooms anyway you prefer but uniformly.
  • If using large quantities of mushrooms, a food processor works best with a slicing or wing blade attachment.
